POLIkol 3350PF belongs to the group of polyoxyethylene glycols. The product meets the strict quality requirements specified in the latest edition of the European Pharmacopoeia, thus it can be classified to the Macrogol group. The commercial product is in the form of white to pale yellow wax with a faint odour and a solidification point of about 53-57°C.
PEGs in solid form, meeting the requirements of pharmacopoeia, can be used in a wide range of pharmaceutical applications. They are used in the manufacture of pills as binding agents/plasticizers or as solubilizers, carriers of active substances. The combination of POLIkol 3350PF (in wax form) with liquid, low molecular weight polyethylene glycols (e.g. POLIkol 400PF) leads to a blend with a greasy consistency, which is the basis for the production of ointments.
POLIkol products are characterized by a very high solubility in water. These substances are not absorbed by the organism and at the same time they are a perfect solvent for substances with osmotic activity. The monograph of the US Pharmacopoeia defines precisely the composition of the mixture of PEG 3350 with a suitable electrolyte, which is used as a laxative.
