Zero-waste production of polyether polyols based on DMC catalyst
LDB polyols: ecological and flexible!

Our line of Rokopol® LDB polyether polyols are diols with a very high molecular weight as for polyols.

The length of their alkoxy chain makes them perfect as raw materials for the production of top-quality sealants. Such sealants maintain high flexibility combined with mechanical durability. Due to their structure, the Rokopol® LDB polyols can provide sealants with high elongation at break values (even 400% of the original length of sealant sample). The use of a special DMC catalyst makes the production of LDB polyols virtually waste-free. It is carried out by coordinate polymerisation.

Characteristics of Rokopol® LDB polyether polyols

High-molecular DMC-based polyether polyols cannot be produced with conventional methods based on anionic catalysis.

The technology of synthesis of polyetherols with a DMC catalyst allows for producing polyols with diversified molecular weights (several to more than ten thousand g/mol), low unsaturation, low metal ion content, low content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and high This reduces the issues.

The polyether polyols developed by PCC Group’s experts are amongst the few commercially available polyols that feature the highest molecular weights of up to 18,000 g/mol. This opens new applications in various specialised areas which are unavailable to conventionally produced polyols, in particular to prepolymers obtained without the use of MDI.

Application of polyether polyols based on DMC catalysts

High-molecular DMC polyols are widely used in many sectors of industry, especially in the production of polyurethane materials. They are mainly dedicated to CASE applications, in particular to the production of silyl modified polymers (SMP) and silyl terminated polyether (STPE). The SMP and STPE are raw materials used for the production of specialised adhesives and sealants, where high flexibility, hydrophobicity, UV resistance and no free NCO are crucial.

Environmental aspects

The production technology using the DMC catalyst is pure and virtually waste-free, while eliminating the formation of undesirable salts as by-products. This reduces the issues related to waste disposal. High molecular DMC polyols applied in plastics make it possible to considerably reduce or virtually eliminate the use of isocyanates.

Key advantages of Rokopol® LDB polyols:
high MW of up to 18,000 g/mol
high hydrophobicity
low unsaturation
low content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
Application

The unique production technology developed by PCC Group experts resulted in unprecedented properties that cannot be achieved with conventional methods of production. These features make our polyols popular in many industrial and other applications.

The key advantages include:
high flexibility and hydrophobicity of adhesives and sealants
very low weight percentage of isocyanates in NCO prepolymers
possibility to produce adhesives and sealants without free NCO groups (SMP, STPE)
virtually waste-free production
