Meet PCC Group – pharmaceutical raw material manufacturers

Raw chemical materials for the pharmaceutical industry are materials of a particularly high-quality. Strict requirements for these intermediate products relate not only to their purity, but also to the specific technical parameters resulting from their specific production process. For this reason, it is worth cooperating with manufacturers of raw pharmaceutical materials, such as PCC Group, who apply production standards in line with the recommendations of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). This organisation is involved in many regulatory areas, which includes the definition of requirements for environmental management standards (ISO14000) and quality management systems (ISO9001). PCC Group produces all their raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry in accordance with these ISO standards and the requirements of the latest version of the European Pharmacopoeia (version 9.0).

PCC Group is a manufacturer of nearly 1,000 chemical products for industry, including the pharmaceutical market. Their offer includes both pharmaceutical raw materials and excipients from the macrogol group such as Macrogol Cetostearyl Ether, Macrogolglycerol Hydroxystearate (PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil) and Macrogolglycerol Ricinoleate. Among the products dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry, they also provide high-purity hydrochloric acid and caustic soda. These ingredients are used to produce ointments, creams, gels, emulsions, capsules or tablets. PCC Group’s portfolio also includes high-quality raw materials for API synthesis, including monochlorobenzene (MCB), orthodichlorobenzene (ODCB), phosphorus trichloride and phosphorus oxychloride.

What kind of raw chemical materials are used in the pharmaceutical industry?

Among the raw materials used by the pharmaceutical industry, hydrochloric acid and caustic soda are quite popular. Both of these chemicals are used for various syntheses required to manufacture many drugs. Hydrochloric acid and caustic soda for pharmaceutical applications are used as pH adjusters, catalysts in chemical reactions and as reducing agents. These material’s substances are also used to manufacture, for example, ascorbic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid, salicylic acid or polopiryna. PCC Group manufactures raw materials for pharmaceutical products in accordance with quality requirements set out in the European Pharmacopoeia.

The offer of raw materials for the pharma industry also includes polyethylene glycols that are used as excipients. “Macrogols”, according to the European Pharmacopoeia, are compounds from the polyethylene glycols group. They are used as ingredients in the production of medicines, ointments, emulsions, dermocosmetic and other pharmaceutical products. Macrogols improve the rheological properties of fluids, increase the viscosity of ointments and creams, and also serve as solvents and solubilisers of active substances. These products are also used as binders, due to their ability to absorb water present in the formulation. The use of macrogols in pharmaceutical formulations allows manufacturers to uniformly distribute all components and achieve the product’s uniform consistency. Macrogols offered by PCC Group (pharma raw material suppliers) meet the requirements of the latest edition of the European Pharmacopoeia.

Another group of materials used in the pharmaceutical industry and which meet the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia are raw materials for API synthesis (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients). They include substances such as monochlorobenzene (MCB), orthodichlorobenzene (ODCB), phosphorus trichloride and phosphorus oxychloride.

Monochlorobenzene and orthodichlorobenzene are used in the pharmaceutical industry, for example, in the synthesis of drugs for liver diseases, thyroid and epilepsy. They are used in the production of paracetamol and vitamin B6. In the production processes, chlorobenzene and dichlorobenzene are used also as high-boiling industrial solvents.

Phosphorus trichloride and phosphorus oxychloride are used in the pharmaceutical industry as phosphorus-containing reagents for phosphorylation reactions, halogenating reagents in the substitution of hydroxyl groups, as well as activators in coupling reactions. These substances are involved in the synthesis of catalysts and cyclic compounds. They are mainly used for the production of drugs that are derivatives of isoquinoline. Phosphorus trichloride and phosphorus oxychloride have a high purity and high chemical reactivity that make them popular among pharmaceutical manufacturers.

As a manufacturer of pharmaceutical raw materials, PCC Group manufactures products in accordance with the highest standards, including GMP EFfCI, ISO 9001, ISO 14000 and OHSAS. PCC Group is appreciated for its high quality and purity of pharmaceutical raw materials, which are distributed to major pharmaceutical companies in Poland and around the world. It also offers products which are common for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, owing to their production of raw cosmetic materials. Interdisciplinary activities allow our customers to purchase all active substances, raw materials, excipients and additives in one place, directly from the global manufacturer of chemicals.

Storage of pharmaceutical products in pharmacies

Proper storage, transportation and packaging of drugs is as important as their production. The pharmaceutical materials used to compound drugs should be stored in the original packaging or in special containers, suitable for a given substance. The containers must have a legible and durable description of their content, and ensure that the substance is protected against light, moisture and dust. Moreover, each should be labelled with the following information:

  • name of the pharmaceutical ingredient,
  • name of the manufacturer and marketing authorisation holder,
  • batch number,
  • expiry date.

The type of packaging is determined mostly by the form of the drug. Different containers will be used for ointments, suppositories and globules, powders, solutions, emulsions, suspensions and liquid powders. They come in appropriate sizes and colours, which protect their content against the harmful effects of light.
