1 - 2 of 2 products

PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is a synthetic, non-ionic surfactant readily chosen by formulators in the cosmetics industry. It is used in products such as shampoos, body lotions, creams and sunscreens. In those products, it acts as an emulsifier, solubiliser, emollient, plasticiser, and wetting agent. PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is very effective both alone and in mixtures with other surfactants.

General characteristics

The compound with an INCI name of PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is one of many surfactants belonging to the group of alkoxylated cetyl alcohol derivatives. The CAS number of PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is 9087-53-0. A CAS Registry Number is a numeric identifier assigned to every chemical substance by the US Chemical Abstracts Service to uniquely identify them. A characteristic feature of PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is reduced foaming, which makes it ideal for applications requiring low-foaming while maintaining performance parameters. The broadly-defined cosmetics industry is the sector with the greatest demand for this surfactant. The product offered by the PCC Group has a concentration of high-quality active substance which is almost 100%.

Applications

The main sector in which PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is used is the cosmetics industry. It can be found in a number of cosmetics for washing and care of the skin and hair. There, it acts as an emollient, i.e. a substance responsible for forming a protective (occlusive) layer on the skin. It is responsible for retaining moisture and preventing its loss through the skin. The use of cosmetics with PPG-5-Ceteth-20 helps to maintain healthy-looking skin and ensure its normal structure. The product also reduces the visibility of sebum. In addition, it is characterised by its lubricating properties, that reduce the adverse effects of anionic surfactants, which are components of cosmetic formulations. In hair care and styling products, PPG-5-Ceteth-20 has similar functions. It is an ingredient in shampoos, conditioners, masks and other products dedicated to hair styling. As one of the ingredients in these formulations, it is responsible for making them shiny and soft. In addition to its moisturising, softening and stabilising properties, this surfactant is also a very good emulsifier. This property results from the structure of its molecules. Like other surfactants, PPG-5-Ceteth-20 is made up of two parts: one hydrophilic and the other hydrophobic. The former has an affinity to the aqueous phase and the latter to the oil phase. This gives it the ability to interact with substances of various chemical nature. PPG-5-Ceteth-20, as an emulsifier, facilitates the formation of emulsions, i.e. systems of two immiscible phases. A large proportion of skincare products, such as creams and lotions, are examples of emulsions. In addition, PPG-5-Ceteth-20 has very good solubilisation properties, which allow, for example, fragrances to be added to the emulsion without the risk of destroying the emulsion.
