Tetraethoxyorthosilane (TEOS) is used as a liquid precursor of silica with SiO2 content of 27-29%. The product is used as a cross-linking agent in silicone rubbers, a drying agent in composites, as an admixture in adhesives, in organic rubber, as an additive to pigments and paints for anti-corrosive coatings, e.g. in zinc paints.

TEOS is also used in the production of silica aerogels, which are further used as an excellent material for thermal insulation (λ = 15-25 mW/m.K). In the semiconductor industry, it is used in integrated circuits to create insulating layers of silica glass.
