Anti-foaming agents are products whose function is to prevent the formation of foam and effectively reduce foam that has already been formed.

Preparations that effectively reduce the amount of foam are needed mainly in closed water systems where foam-forming agents, such as surfactants, are present at the same time. Anti-foaming agents are used in industrial processes in which foam causes undesirable effects or prevents proper operation of the devices. Foaming makes it difficult to fill tanks, deteriorates the quality of products, and may also prolong the production process. Therefore, the use of agents that prevent or remove foam can reduce technological problems and production costs.

Anti-foaming agents are used mainly in paper, agrochemical and textile industries. Preparations of this type have also been used in sewage treatment plants and in the production of paints and varnishes.
