Phosphonates are a group of phosphorganic esters or phosphorous acid salts or its derivatives. They are stable chemical substances that show no chronic toxicity. Phosphorous acids work perfectly as detergent ingredients due to their unique qualities, such as heavy metal binding, corrosion protection, water softening and dirt dispersion. Phosphonates are substances that do not pose a major hazard to the environment, so they are permitted by the Nordic Ecolabel certification.

These compounds also find use in the production of medicines, industrial water treatment formulations, in substances used in cooling systems, in detergents, in the construction industry and in other sectors.
