Chemal BP-3252 is a reverse EO/PO block copolymer that is used as a defoamer and low foaming emulsifiers in aqueous cleaners for the metal industry. This product is also commonly used as defoamer in detergent cleaners as well as a wetting and anti-streaking agents for hard surface applications.
Chemal BP-3252 belongs to the group of nonionic block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide (Chemal BP-), INCI name – Meroxapol 252. Chemal BP-3252 is one of the low-foaming and anti-foaming products which is PO terminated, commonly called reverse block copolymers. It is widely used in metalworking formulations where it provides defoaming and wetting attributes to complex chemical mixtures.
The product is a slightly viscous almost colorless liquid with a pour point of below -5°C. The active substance content is about 100% and diluted aqueous solutions become cloudy at ~33°C. With an HLB value of 6.3, Chemal BP-3252 can be used as a secondary emulsifier in multiple industry applications.
The product is a moderate molecular weight polymer with a specific, bifunctional structure, indicating that is contains two hydrophobic PO groups. This feature distinguishes the Chemal BP- reverse block series from other nonionic surfactants and defines their properties. The product has moderate detergency, degreasing and wetting properties of hard surfaces. For this reason, it is frequently used as a rinse aid in mechanical dishwashing applications, formulations for industrial bottle washing, and metal degreasing preparations. This chemistry prevents spotting and staining on hard surfaces.
Chemal BP-3252 is used in Clean in Place systems, e.g., as a component of cleaning formulations in breweries. Thanks to the anti-foaming properties already achieved at low temperatures, it causes a lowering of the foaming of washing baths in the presence of proteins or starch. Chemal BP-3252 is resistant to hard water, compatible neutral and slightly alkaline formulations.
Its anti-foaming properties are used in the paper and food industry as well as in all production processes where the foaming of technological waters or wastewater occurs. Thanks to its properties, this product reduces the surface tension between the liquid and the air improving the "drainage" of the foam, which results in its reduction.
