PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate is a surfactant belonging to the group of so-called PEGs. It is known for its emulsifying and cleaning properties. It is mainly used as one of the ingredients of detergents, mainly dishwashing liquids and concentrated washing liquids.

What is PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate?

• It is a non-ionic surfactant known with the INCI name PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate. It is a derivative of glycerides and coconut oil. The CAS number of the compound is 68201-46-7.
• It is produced, among others, by one of the companies of the PCC Group – PCC Exol S.A., under the trade name ROKAcet KO400G.
• At room temperature, PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate is a liquid.
• It has a relatively low viscosity.
• The colour of the pure product varies from straw yellow to light brown.
• PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate is highly soluble in water.
• Diluted aqueous solutions of this surfactant (about 5%) have a slightly acidic pH of 5.4 to 6.9.
• The density of PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate at 20ᵒC is approximately 1.08 g/ml.
• The freezing point of the pure compound is below zero (-13ᵒC).
• Water solutions of the ROKAcet KO400G product are resistant to acids, hard water and partially to alkalis.
• Te compound is miscible with non-ionic, anionic and cationic agents.
• The content of the active substance in the commercial product (ROKAcet KO400G) exceeds 99%. The entire product is plant-based.

The role and function of PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate

PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate is mainly used in detergents such as dishwashing liquids or washing liquids due to its very good cleaning properties. The compound is especially recommended as a component of concentrated washing liquids. It can be used in products compliant with the requirements of Ecolabel and Nordic Swan. These are certificates that are granted to products meeting the environmental criteria and confirm that neither the product, nor the production, or even the disposal process of this product may pose a threat to the natural environment. PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate is also a good emulsifier, which, under process conditions, significantly facilitates the removal of impurities of various origins from the cleaned surfaces. PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate shows a synergistic effect with other emulsifiers. It supports the action of other emulsifiers, which makes the formation of an O/W emulsion, i.e. an emulsion in which oil particles are dispersed in water, more effective. The good solubility of PEG-6 Glyceryl Cocoate along with anionic, non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants is also often used.
