What are furniture adhesives and what are they used for?

Furniture adhesives are substances that ensure a durable bond between components used in the production of accessories and interior furnishings. These include, in particular: wooden components, chipboard, MDF, veneers and other materials used in furniture production. They are used for assembling frames, bodies, fronts, edge banding, surface laminating and joining structural elements. Depending on the intended use of the furniture (indoor or outdoor), different parameters are also required (resistance to moisture, temperature, UV radiation).

Their main tasks are to ensure:

  • High adhesion to various types of surfaces (solid wood, chipboard, laminates, foils, etc.).
  • Safety for end users.
  • Durability, so that the furniture will serve for years.
  • Suitable drying time – enabling precise joining, alignment and bonding of elements.

Types of adhesives used in furniture production

The furniture industry, depending on the production technology, the specific nature of the materials and the intended use of the end products, uses various types of adhesives. These include, for example: polyurethane adhesives (combining high mechanical strength with flexibility and moisture resistance), PVA adhesives (easy to apply and safe to use), hot-melt (fast-setting) and finally – hybrid (offering the advantages of different technologies).

Who are adhesives for the furniture industry intended for? Industries and applications.

Professional substances used in the production of adhesives for the furniture industry are primarily used by companies involved in furniture manufacturing. These include small manufacturers and small to medium-sized carpentry workshops, as well as full-fledged furniture factories.

Adhesives based on chemical raw materials are used in the production of interior furnishings for houses and flats (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, etc.), outdoor furnishings (garden furniture) and commercial spaces (office furniture or furnishings for showrooms, shops, galleries, etc.). They can be produced on any scale, from small-scale ‘made-to-order’ production to large-scale serial production.
