A mixture is a system of two or more chemical compounds or elements, which are mixed together in any ratio and show unique properties.

A mixture comprises a dispersive phase, which forms the environment in which dispersion occurs (solvent), and a dispersed phase, which undergoes dispersion (dissolved substance). There are homogeneous mixtures, where visual identification of the components is largely impossible, and heterogeneous mixtures, where the components can usually be distinguished without analytical instruments.
