Concrete is a composite formed through the mixing of primarily cement, aggregate and water. The mixture is initially viscoplastic, then dries out to form a solid. Various additives are used to achieve the characteristic properties of concrete. Such admixtures and additives for concrete are fine-grained ingredients added during concrete blend production.

For users of concrete, water tightness is an important parameter. For this reason, state of the art technologies are used to improve this quality. A popular additive to watertight concretes is microsilica (silica fume). An increase in concrete water tightness by several dozen times is possible by replacing as little as 15% of the cement with microsilica.

The PCC Group product range offers a microsilica produced in one of the most advanced production plants in the world, owned by PCC BakkiSilicon hf, with its headquarters in Iceland.
