The additives that reduce the water absorption of concrete are used to improve the durability and strength of concrete by reducing its ability to absorb water. They are widely used in construction, especially in structures exposed to water, moisture, frost or aggressive chemicals.

Additives limiting the water absorption of concrete act at different levels of the material structure. Due to their properties, they have a wide range of effects: hydrophobic, increasing density or solidification, as well as reducing the amount of water. Water-soluble polymers, silicate additives or silicone compounds are used in order to achieve these effects.
