The purpose of anti-foaming or defoaming additives is to reduce the formation of foam in production processes. During mixing, beating or aerating operations, there is a tendency to generate unwanted bubbles which can negatively impact the quality and performance of a product.

Anti-foaming agents reduce the surface tension of liquids, thus hindering the occurrence of foam-forming phenomena. The common forms of these compounds are organic or silicone-based. They are used in a wide range of applications: in food processing, detergents, paints and varnishes, sewage treatment, and pharmacy.
