Their purpose is to reduce the process of polymer degradation, which minimizes the negative impact on the colour of the material. The process stabilizers eliminate the yellowing effect of the polymeric material during subsequent processing stages. Process stabilizers provide a synergistic effect with other types of stabilizers, which makes them suitable for creating sets of additives.
The main cause of material degradation is their contact with various factors, such as oxygen, heat or UV light that trigger many chemical reactions. In the case of plastics, the degradation involves breaking the polymer chain during their processing, which is indicated by changed colour of the finished product. Therefore, suitable additives (process stabilizers) are required to prevent these effects.
