ROKAnol® K18 is a non-ionic surfactant that belongs to the group of ethoxylated fatty alcohols. The product is manufactured on the basis of natural raw materials. ROKAnol® K18 contains about 100% of the active substance. Takes the form of a wax or paste with a max. Iodine Colour Value of 10 and a freezing point close to 35°C.
The hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value (HLB) of the product is 16.3, due to which the product is characterized by good solubility in water. In addition, the product is highly soluble in low aliphatic alcohols and benzene. It is readily biodegradable in the natural environment.
ROKAnol® K18 has a strong hydrophilic character and has good emulsifying properties. The best efficiency is obtained in combination with anionic surfactants, such as ROSULfan L15, SULFOROKAnol L227 / 1 or ABSNa 30. Its basic function is emulsification of monomers in emulsion polymerization processes. In this application it is used to obtain polymer dispersions, e.g. acrylic, acetate-vinyl, styrene-acrylic, homo- and copolymers of vinyl acetate and mixed. The high degree of ethoxylation significantly improves the resistance of the dispersion to the presence of electrolytes and resistance to freeze-thaw cycles. Polymer dispersions created with ROKAnol® K18 are a film-forming base for decorative paints.
The product is used in the paint and varnish industry, where its properties for dispersing dyes and pigments are used. In addition, the dispersibility of ROKAnol® K18 makes the product used as a post additive (latex dispersing) agent for dye formulations.
The product can be an emulsifier in agents used in metalworking. It can also be a component of household chemistry products, especially in anti-static formulations for furniture care.
As an emulsifier it is also used in products from the automotive chemistry series.
Due to its dispersing properties, ROKAnol® K18 is used as an semi-product for the preparation of detergents. It is particularly effective in washing baths in combination with other surface-active compounds, e.g. with ROKAnol® IT and NL series. It can be used in a wide range of temperatures as it exhibits surface activity at low, medium and high temperatures. In addition, it is effective in acidic, neutral and weakly alkaline environments.
