They are flexible foams that ‘remember’ their previous shape, and provide a high comfort index.
They may have different recovery time and various structure and cell openness. These foams are characterised by density ranging from 30 to 80 kg/m3, with hardness of 1–3 kPa, and recovery time from 1 to 15 seconds. Viscoelastic foams are characterised by breaking strength exceeding 60 psi, and elongation at break reaching 80%. Moreover, they provide excellent permanent deformation recovery performance enabling high compression of the foams during transport.
Viscoelastic foams are used in the furniture industry for manufacturing mattresses and pillows of increased softness.
