The role of detergents in bathroom cleaning

Bathroom cleaners are products designed for cleaning bathroom surfaces such as bathtubs, sinks, taps and shower cubicles. They are usually available in a liquid, concentrated form for effective dirt removal.

They are widely used in domestic settings, but are also intended for professional use in facilities such as swimming pools, healthcare facilities, hotels and educational institutions.

Specialised bathroom cleaning chemicals offered by the PCC Group

Surfactants

Also known as surface-active agents. They are essential in any bathroom cleaning formula as they are responsible for wetting, penetrating and removing dirt. Chemical raw materials for the production of bathroom cleaning detergents include surfactants:

  • Anionic

They play a key role in ensuring effective cleaning, foaming and emulsification of finished products.

The ROSULfan and SULFOROKAnol series of products deserve special attention in the PCC Group’s offer. The latter form a group of alkyl ether sulphates. The main advantages of these raw materials are their excellent emulsifiability, wettability and, most importantly, strong foaming properties – they generate high and stable foams.

  • Non-ionic

They work well in removing heavy dirt and mineral limescale. They have very good wetting properties – they reduce surface tension and effectively distribute the preparation on the cleaned surface.

The wide range of non-ionic surfactants includes products from the ROKAnol series, e.g. ROKAnol NL8W and ROKAnol H5. This group of substances is characterised by high surface activity, which allows them to be used in detergents and cleaning agents. Some of them also have a bleaching effect.

  • Amphoteric

They are often used as supplementary surfactants in the production of bathroom cleaning detergents. Especially in combination with anionic surfactants, they act synergistically, increasing foam volume and improving its stability.

The PCC Group offers amphoteric surfactants from the ROKAmina series, e.g. ROKAmina K30B and ROKAmina L30B. These are raw materials from the betaine group. They effectively modify the rheological properties of ready-made formulations. In addition, they can be used as ingredients in All Purpose Cleaning (APC) products.

Auxiliary substances

Raw materials for the production of bathroom cleaning detergents also include a number of auxiliary substances that improve the properties of the formulation. These include:

  • Antistatic additives, e.g. ROKwinol 80, ROKAmid MRZ17. They prevent the rapid accumulation of dirt and dust on cleaned surfaces.
  • Foam stabilisers, e.g. ROKAmina K40HC MB. The product has very good foaming properties over a wide range of pH and water hardness. In combination with anionic surfactants, it exhibits a positive, synergistic increase in foam volume and improves the stability of the preparations.
  • Emulsifiers that enable a permanent combination of individual ingredients and stabilise the emulsion, e.g. POLIkol 6000. This product belongs to the polyoxyethylene glycol group. In addition to its emulsifying function, it can be added to formulations to improve their rheological properties (increase viscosity). Furthermore, the flaked form is very convenient for formulators due to its ease of dosing and storage.

Range of ready-to-use products

The PCC Group also offers a range of ready-to-use products in its portfolio, including:

  • PCC PROFESSIONAL WC GEL is a preparation designed for cleaning ceramic sanitary ware such as toilet bowls and urinals. The product has a gel consistency, which allows it to remain on the cleaned surfaces for a long time.
  • PCC PROFESSIONAL WC TRIO is a product for professional use, designed for cleaning, disinfecting and bleaching various surfaces. Its concentrated form is ideal for cleaning toilet bowls, urinals, bathtubs, washbasins, tiles and grout.
  • PCC PROFESSIONAL STONE AND RUST is an acidic preparation designed to remove rust and stone deposits from sanitary facilities

A number of products have the prestigious international ECOCERT label, which is the most important and recognised certificate of quality and environmental safety in Europe.

The PCC Greenline series of products is particularly noteworthy. Their high biodegradability makes them safe for the environment. In addition, some of them comply with the biodegradability criteria set out in Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 on detergents.
