ROKAmid KAD is a nonionic surfactant called INCI: Cocamide DEA. It is produced on the basis of natural vegetable oils. It has the form of a clear or slightly turbid liquid from light yellow to yellow. ROKAmid KAD belongs to the most widespread co-surfactants and has a number of very interesting application properties.
ROKAmid KAD is widely used in the production of cosmetics, where it primarily acts as a rheology modifier - a thickening agent that improves consistency, thanks to the creation of so-called mixed micelles. Combined with anionic surfactants, it improves and stabilizes the foam quality.
ROKAmid KAD is very effective in low concentration. It has cleansing properties - it removes impurities from the skin and hair and at the same time has a greasing effect. The washing process deprives the skin of, among others, fatty substances, therefore re-oiling substances are necessary, i.e. ROKAmid KAD, which rebuild the lipid barrier, thus protecting the skin from external factors and damage. As a thickening agent, it is also great in the detergent industry, both for home and professional use, as well as in car chemicals.
Furthermore, the product exhibits emulsifying properties – it acts as a co-emulsifier that supports the emulsifier responsible for forming the emulsion. Due to its synergistic action with anionic surfactants, ROKAmid KAD is added to concrete admixtures, particularly in challenging applications where it improves air entrainment. This non-ionic co-surfactant can be successfully used in industrial cleaning agents together with other non-ionic agents intended for degreasing, e.g. in the oil industry.
ROKAmid KAD also exhibits very good asphalt emulsifying properties. This agent is an effective co-emulsifier for bituminous emulsions used as waterproofing. It is used as a co-emulsifier for non-ionic surfactants (EXObit E-D7, EXObit E-S9) or amphoteric surfactants (EXObit E-K3B, EXObit E-K40). It is used to produce bituminous emulsions filled with synthetic materials (e.g. latex). Additionally, thanks to its thickening properties, it allows the viscosity of the final product to be modified according to customer requirements. The standard dosage in bituminous emulsions is 1.6–2.5%.
Due to its form and dispersibility in water, ROKAmid KAD can act as a release agent in the production of plastic parts based on polyethylene and polypropylene. Its antistatic properties allow for applications in the plastics manufacturing process. When combined with metal salts, it forms an antistatic additive for polystyrene and impact-resistant polystyrene blends. Additionally, this product is used in water-soluble, semi-synthetic and synthetic metalworking coolants, as well as in polishing agents.
The liquid form of ROKAmid KAD facilitates handling of the product, i.e. storage, transport and dosing, and also allows formulations to be created without the need for heating. This is particularly important when using active ingredients in formulations that are sensitive to elevated temperatures.
